Dietmar Leyk is a principal and cofounder of SPACECOUNCIL – a studio for architecture, interiors, urbanism, and foresight.

He was born in Hagen and educated at the Architectural Association in London and the Technical University in Braunschweig, where he received his diploma–degree in architecture in 1994.

He was a design architect in the office of Elia Zenghelis in London, Athens and in Dusseldorf from 1991 to 1994 and in the studio of Daniel Libeskind in Los Angles and Berlin from 1994 to 1996.

Dietmar was a faculty member at the Department of Architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich from 1996 to 2003, an interim professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich for architecture and urban design from 2002 to 2003 and was the programme lead for high-density mixed-use cities at the Future Cities Laboratory - Singapore-ETH Centre from 2015–2019.

From 2005 to 2013, Dietmar held a visiting professorship at the Berlage Center for Advanced Studies in Architecture and Urban Design, which is part of Delft University of Technology’s Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment.

He works with leading international companies and agencies such as the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore. Dietmar has more than 25 years of experience in architecture and urban design, scenario planning, urbanisation, high-density cities, knowledge architecture, campus architecture, and large-scale urban projects. He has been responsible for numerous large-scale interdisciplinary projects in research, development, and design.

In 2021, Dietmar became the curator and director of the exhibition "Mutualities" at the Biennale di Venezia, the 17th International Architecture Exhibition 2021, which makes explicit the interaction between people, cities, nature, and digital technologies in space and time.

Dietmar is a frequent speaker in public debates and lectures at universities, cultural institutions, conferences, and symposiums around the world.
