Exploring focus and panorama in alpine living"The most defining quality of this house is its seamless integration of terraces and voids, creating a constant dialogue between the expansive Alpine views, the lake, and the mountain, while balancing openness with intimacy."
Dietmar Leyk, principal and founder
A narrow plot perched parallel to the southern slope, offering breathtaking views of the Alps, situated 100 metres above Lake Lucerne. This is a single-family house designed for two generations. The architecture follows a simple idea of terraces extending into the eastern garden, transforming into a play and leisure area.
While the top floor is conceived as an empty platform, adaptable for various furnishing possibilities, the floor below is organised with freestanding 'boxes', creating in-between spaces that constantly reconnect with the lake and the Alps. Towards the slope, an exterior retaining wall emerges, detaching the living spaces from the mountain. In this ‘gap’, a green ramp and a covered swimming pool are nestled. This void not only allows for an intriguing play of light but also addresses the relationship between the lake and the mountain, the contrast between confinement and openness, and the dialogue between focus and panorama.
